Tee shirts, shorts and pumps for gymnastics and minor games lessons and suitable trainers for school field use during games lessons. All parents who volunteer will be subject to police checks.
ABSENCES – A note, phone call or personal visit to explain a child’s absence is always required. JULY 2008
SCHOOL NOTICE
Dear Parent/Guardian
Our first year as a new Primary School has come to an end and at this time I think it is important to look back and remember some of the highlights:-
The new school year started with the official opening of St Giles School in the Parish Church attended by children, staff, parents, governors, LEA and Diocesan representatives.
In October the school hosted Mrs P Singh, Headteacher from our partnership school in Nepal. The Infant Department celebrated Harvest with a collective worship entitled Harvest around the World and the whole school joined in a Harvest Service led by class 3/4HB. Donations were given to St Johns Shelter. During this month the School Council visited the Mayor’s Parlour and also received the Healthy Schools Award for the third year.
During the first term the Reception children met with numerous people from the working world e.g. Fire Service and Police and Year 3/4 children visited Blist Hill Victorian Museum.
Christmas concerts from both departments were held in the Parish Church and the new year began with a pantomime.
During January/February Infant children worked with zoo animals, visited E-on Power Station, a café, St Giles Church and took part in Kerb Craft. Junior children attended a concert in the Parish Church and Infant and Junior children worked with a drama teacher.
St David’s day was celebrated in the Parish Church and World Maths and Book Day were enjoyed by everyone.
The Juniors took part in the Wrexham Science Festival and an entertainer spoke to the children about “Don’t Touch Tell”.
The choir ended the term with a concert.
The Summer Term has had numerous activities – Year 1 visited a Toy Exhibition, Year 4 took part in a Gardening Competition, Reception children visited Park Hall Farm, Year 2 went on a Wrexham History Walk, Years 5 & 6 visited Cardiff and Glan Llyn, Year 6 visited Dangerpoint, Years 3 & 4 visited Chester Zoo, Years 1 & 2 visited Erddig, all the Juniors visited Erddig Country Park and Year 1 visited Greenfield Valley Park.
In sport the netball team became District Champions and the football team won more games than they lost.
The school has extra curricular activities that cover Sport, Music, ICT, Art, Gardening, Eco Club, Books, Newspaper Clubs and many more.
As you can see our first year as a Primary School has been very busy and I thank everyone for their help and support.
To the children who are leaving we wish every success in the future. To parents who will no longer have children in the school thank you for your excellent support. It has been very much appreciated.
The Rector of the Parish Church, Canon Geoffrey Marshall, our Chair of Governors is also leaving. On behalf of everyone connected with St Giles I thank him for his contribution to the school and wish him well in the future.
I hope you all have a lovely holiday and look forward to seeing you all in September.

CHILDREN’S SAFETY – It is advisable that children arrive in school no earlier than 8.45 a.m. If they do the school cannot accept responsibility for their safety. Children and parents should enter the school grounds through the gate by the Co-op Store.
LATENESS - A number of children are late for the start of the school day on numerous occasions during the term. May I ask you to ensure that your child arrives in school for a 9.00 a.m. start. Please help us to promote punctuality as persistent lateness is a poor habit and disrupts the education of the child.
PARKING – Can I remind all parents, in the interest of safety, that they cannot park their cars on school premises. The car park is for staff cars, visitors to the school and parents with disabled children.
ABSENCES – A note, phone call or personal visit to explain a child’s absence is always required. Children must be met from school by an adult if they are to go out of school for a dental/hospital appointment. If your child is to be taken home by a friend or neighbour do let us know. A child may be excused school for holidays if the parent’s holiday cannot be otherwise arranged. The maximum period for such absences is two weeks in any one school year.
JEWELLERY – For safety reasons children with pierced ears must wear studs, not earrings that hang in any way.
SCHOOL BOOKS – Over the past few years school books have been going home on a regular basis. For this system to continue we are asking parents to look at home to see if there are any books belonging to St Giles School and return them.
PARENT GOVERNORS – Mrs Wood (daughter Gemma Class 4NJ) and Mrs Hayes (daughter Jessica Class 3/4B) have been elected as Parent Governors to the school’s new Governing Body. There are two more vacancies for parents. If anyone is interested please contact the school.
CHURCH SERVICE – ST GILES PARISH CHURCH – The Rector of the Parish Church has invited the school to take part in the Service at 11.00 a.m. at the Parish Church on Sunday 27 January. Children from both the Infant and Junior Departments will be contributing to the service e.g. Infant song and Junior dance etc. (the dance group working with Ms E Davies have been asked to take part). If you and your child are able to support this event please return the reply slip below.
Yours sincerely

IRONBRIDGE
Dear Parent/Guardian
As part of the History Scheme of Work Years 3 and 4 have been learning about the life of Victorians. To enhance their understanding of this topic we will be taking them on an educational visit to Blists Hill, Ironbridge, Telford.
At Blists Hill Victorian Town the children will gain a real understanding of what life was like in the late Victorian period by exploring numerous exhibits. One of the exhibits is an opportunity to change their spending money into shillings and pence and spend it around the village. Should you wish your child to share in this fun opportunity please put £2 only in a separate envelope to the cost of the trip (more spending money can be taken along).
The bus will leave school at 9.15 a.m. on Tuesday 27 November and return at around 4.00 p.m. The children will need a packed lunch, sensible shoes and warm waterproof clothes.
To cover the cost of the visit we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £8.00. I do hope that parents are willing to make this contribution in order that the visit can take place. This educational visit is also being subsidised by school funds.
Could all educational visit money be sent to school as follows:-
• Send money in a sealed envelope.
• Put the total amount on the envelope and label the visit.
• Put your child’s name and class on the envelope.
Please return the reply slip below by Thursday 22 November. A voluntary contribution would also be appreciated by this date.
Packed lunches are available from school at a cost of £1.70. If you wish your child to have one please complete the slip below and return to school
