This year for our Harvest Festival Fundraiser the school is asking the children to raise money for Barnardo’s.
I forward an envelope with this letter explaining the Healthy Food Challenge.
We have asked children only to ask for sponsorship from people they know and not to wander the streets door knocking.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION – The school is implementing a policy of integration of boys and girls in games and physical education. It is essential that children have suitable clothing for all forms of P.E. Tee shirts, shorts and pumps for gymnastics and minor games lessons and suitable trainers for school field use during games lessons. It is also important to consider warmer games clothing for winter months, such as a tracksuit or sweatshirt top. Please do not go out and purchase new sports wear – shorts and a top of any description will suffice.

Dear Parent/Guardian
Our first year as a new Primary School has come to an end and at this time I think it is important to look back and remember some of the highlights:-
The new school year started with the official opening of St Giles School in the Parish Church attended by children, staff, parents, governors, LEA and Diocesan representatives.
In October the school hosted Mrs P Singh, Headteacher from our partnership school in Nepal. The Infant Department celebrated Harvest with a collective worship entitled Harvest around the World and the whole school joined in a Harvest Service led by class 3/4HB. Donations were given to St Johns Shelter. During this month the School Council visited the Mayor’s Parlour and also received the Healthy Schools Award for the third year.
During the first term the Reception children met with numerous people from the working world e.g. Fire Service and Police and Year 3/4 children visited Blist Hill Victorian Museum.
Christmas concerts from both departments were held in the Parish Church and the new year began with a pantomime.
During January/February Infant children worked with zoo animals, visited E-on Power Station, a café, St Giles Church and took part in Kerb Craft. Junior children attended a concert in the Parish Church and Infant and Junior children worked with a drama teacher.
St David’s day was celebrated in the Parish Church and World Maths and Book Day were enjoyed by everyone.
The Juniors took part in the Wrexham Science Festival and an entertainer spoke to the children about “Don’t Touch Tell”.
The choir ended the term with a concert.
The Summer Term has had numerous activities – Year 1 visited a Toy Exhibition, Year 4 took part in a Gardening Competition, Reception children visited Park Hall Farm, Year 2 went on a Wrexham History Walk, Years 5 & 6 visited Cardiff and Glan Llyn, Year 6 visited Dangerpoint, Years 3 & 4 visited Chester Zoo, Years 1 & 2 visited Erddig, all the Juniors visited Erddig Country Park and Year 1 visited Greenfield Valley Park.
In sport the netball team became District Champions and the football team won more games than they lost.
The school has extra curricular activities that cover Sport, Music, ICT, Art, Gardening, Eco Club, Books, Newspaper Clubs and many more.
As you can see our first year as a Primary School has been very busy and I thank everyone for their help and support.
To the children who are leaving we wish every success in the future. To parents who will no longer have children in the school thank you for your excellent support. It has been very much appreciated.
The Rector of the Parish Church, Canon Geoffrey Marshall, our Chair of Governors is also leaving. On behalf of everyone connected with St Giles I thank him for his contribution to the school and wish him well in the future.
I hope you all have a lovely holiday and look forward to seeing you all in September.

NON SCHOOL UNIFORM DAY - In response to the national disasters in Burma and China the school will be holding a Non School Uniform Day on Friday 23 May. A voluntary contribution of 50p would enable the school to support the charities working in both regions.
DOGS ON SCHOOL YARD - It has come to my attention that quite a number of parents are bringing dogs on to the school yard (on one particular afternoon there were 6 dogs on the yard). In the interest of Health and Safety of everyone connected with St Giles I am requesting that parents who bring dogs to school wait outside the school boundaries when collecting their child.
I do hope you can support these requests.

SCHOOL NOTICE
Dear Parent/Guardian September 2007
I hope your summer was as peaceful and relaxing as it should be!
PHOTOGRAPHS – On Tuesday 11 September the school photographer will be visiting school to take individual photographs and family groups. If you have a child in the Infant Department the family groups will be taken in the Junior Department on this day from 8.45 a.m. The date of individual Infant Department photos will be Wednesday 10 October from 8.45 a.m.
P.E./Games lessons will commence on Monday 10 September.

CHILDREN’S SAFETY – It is advisable that children arrive in school no earlier than 8.45 a.m. If they do the school cannot accept responsibility for their safety. Children and parents should enter the school grounds through the gate by the Co-op Store.
PARKING – Can I remind all parents, in the interest of safety, that they cannot park their cars on school premises. The car park is for staff cars, visitors to the school and parents with disabled children.
PARENTAL HELP – The school is very keen to utilise the expertise of parents during school time, particularly in the areas of cooking, art and craft, Infant library etc. If you wish to help please fill in the return slip and forward to Mr Miller the Headteacher. All parents who volunteer will be subject to police checks.
ABSENCES – A note, phone call or personal visit to explain a child’s absence is always required. Children must be met from school by an adult if they are to go out of school for a dental/hospital appointment. If your child is to be taken home by a friend or neighbour do let us know. A child may be excused school for holidays if the parent’s holiday cannot be otherwise arranged. The maximum period for such absences is two weeks in any one school year.
INFANT SNACK – Please could the weekly snack money of £1 be paid on a Monday in an envelope labelled with your child’s name. If you do not send a £1 we will assume you do not want your child to have snack.
COLLECTING CHILDREN – At the end of the school day the vast majority of parents collect their children or give them permission to walk home at the appropriate time (Infants 3 p.m. Juniors 3.15 p.m.) Children who are not collected on time will be looked after by the school for the first 15 minutes and then placed in the After School Club where there will be a charge.
JEWELLERY – For safety reasons children with pierced ears must wear studs, not earrings that hang in any way.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS – We would be grateful if parents would inform the school of any change of address or telephone number, in order that we may update our records.
SCHOOL BOOKS – Over the past few years school books have been going home on a regular basis. For this system to continue we are asking parents to look at home to see if there are any books belonging to St Giles School and return them.
DINNER MONEY – School dinner money will only be collected on the Monday of every week. – Dinner money is currently £8.25 per week (£1.65 per day) for Infants and £8.50 per week (£1.70 per day) for Juniors. Please send dinner money in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and class and the amount enclosed. If you wish your child to have dinner for 1 or 2 days during the week this money should also be paid on Monday with the relevant days clearly marked on the envelope.
WATER BOTTLES – As part of the Healthy Schools Project the school introduced water bottles into the classroom. Bottles are on sale in school at £1.20 each.
Yours sincerely
P A Miller
